Race Day Reports
2010 Round 2 point score
Well the day certainly flowed much better than our first point score of the year.
With some new ideas with sign on, marshalling as well as riders brief signing slips & a race day program handout put into action, thanks to Poz & Shelley, everyone knew what was happening in what order through out the day.
Also the additional scrutineering area from the eastern gate behind the start gates to cater for the greater numbers helped to get everyone in on time & ready for racing.
Practice & racing was started on time & we were able to achieve our goal of 3 x 5 lap rounds.
We also managed to get through the day without any serious injuries.
Thanks to the seniors that helped keep the water up to the track & maintain the great racing conditions.
Also, thanks to the round 3 marshals that were stuck out on the track until racing concluded at 5:40pm
Until we can guarentee numbers for 4 rounds of marshalling, we are going to take the current marshalling format out to 2hrs 45mins per round. This will take us out to 5:15pm, as it is unlikely we will finish a meeting any earlier, with the rider numbers, without dropping laps.
some points to remember to gets things running smoother
- juniors must provide a marshal. sign on the marshalling roster prior to signing on
- when signing on, ensure you get a riders brief attendance slip for each class, additionally, get your race order handout to ensure you don`t miss your race
- you must sign on & obtain a sticker for your bike prior to presenting it for scrutineering
- when presenting you bike for scrutineering you must bring your helmet no exceptions
- juniors must also bring body armour fitted with back numbers corrosponding with your bike number
- no open footwear allowed in the pits
- body jewellery must be taped or removed, if caught out you go home
ps. if the person opening the pit fencing at the last 2 meeting is found, they will no longer be a member.
all of these apply at our practice day on Sunday 11th April
Lakes round 7 point score
a better than expected number of riders turned out for the last pointscore of the season
riders contended with the heat to complete 3 uninterupted 5 lap rounds
even without a full all powers grid, we still ran the 2 back to back races to allow the seniors plenty of track time
there was certainly something good about the track with many of the younger 85cc riders clearing “centre” for the first time
Coop Pozniak started it all then Tigman Priestley & Brock McLeary followed the lead
Coop went on to top it off on his 65 jumping lap after lap, being the first 65cc in my memory to take it on.
a great day to finish off the season
thanks to all those that helped out over the weekend
Interclub Round 3 at Lakes
With the track groomed to perfection, after all the mess of the excavation work that had taken place over the last 2 weeks, it looked like had the best conditions possible after the rain soaked the track on Friday night & Saturday.
However, the additional rain Saturday night then again the shower on Sunday made things very interesting for practice & then into the first round.
Seniors marshalled practice & the first Junior Lites race & watched the small bikes struggle in some of the wetter places on the track & started asking “can we just go home” & that`s exactly what some of them did after senior practice.
Even the Lakes regulars ( “good on ya” Nic #10 & Adam #74) packed up & headed home, so it was left for the other club riders to “man up” & show how it`s done. I did also see a very clean #60 bike being put back in the trailer.
Unfortunately we had to send the 50ccs home after 2 unsuccessful attempts to get them around without frying clutches & damaging both rider spirit & machine.
Honestly guys, this was our first wet day for the season & the track is not normally as hard as this to ride, so not a good first experience for the newcomers.
Anyway racing continued with conditions much better for those who braved round 2 & 3.
Junior Lites had no trouble with the track all day & provided the dry lines for the other groups.
The hill & all top sections of the track were back to prime with some of the wetter lower sections turning “1 line” to provide a great afternoons riding.
All groups continued through the day with a reduced number of laps to avoid the overheating issues in the first round.
Hopefully this provided a better lasting memory of Lakes than earlier in the day.
All done by 2:30pm & home to wash bikes before the football.
Thanks to the Maitland, Cessnock & Hunter committees & members for their help throughout the day & for sharing the interclub experience.
A big thanks to our Lakes helpers, many of whom attended the working bee on Saturday &/or worked at the track all day on Sunday without even having anyone riding.
I won`t mention names in case I forget someone, but you guys know who you are.
Round 6 point score 6th September
Round 6 point score turned out to be another great day of racing with 3 rounds of 5 lap races.
Good to see the increase in rider numbers.
The rain Friday night certainly made track prep challenging, however those that rode would agree that the track was prime from start to finish.
Marshalling was far more organised with seniors notified of race order at sign on to allow them to flag practice.
Thanks to the junior parents who all turned up on time for their marshalling duties making the changeovers smoother than ever.
2 day Lakes Memorial Weekend 19th & 20th September
See you there
Practice day 30th August
another great days riding
4 rounds of 20 & 30 minute motos & all done by 3pm
good to see a few new members enjoying the low key day
thanks to all the marshals for making it possible to run the day
